The history of CCI Trenchless
CCI Trenchless is a division of Coleman Construction, Inc. that focuses solely on underground construction and trenchless technology.
Before Coleman Construction had really begun, the Coleman family were ranchers. Past generations of the Coleman family members worked on a ranch in Leadore, Idaho for a total salary of $200 per month. Harry and Shirley Coleman (mother and father to Fred and grandparents to Clay) decided together that they would start by purchasing a small truck and hauling logs and building jack fence for local ranchers. In the first few days working on their own they were able to clear enough revenue to cover their expenses for the entire month. They continued holding various positions hauling logs, ranching and mining in local claims until 1978 when Coleman Construction was officially established.
Though originally focused on general contracting, Coleman Construction began to grow and started to casually bid on underground construction projects, or self perform the work when necessary. In 2010 CCI Trenchless became a leader in the underground utility industry for the states of Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho, with the team putting all its focus and energy into performing these specialty projects.
CCI Trenchless has continued to improve its services' performance over the years. Going to great lengths to ensure that their underground utility services meet or surpass the expectations of every job. This includes having a large fleet of equipment for both public and private projects across the country and a team trained in safety and construction expertise.

President & General Superintendent
fred coleman
For Fred Coleman hard work, experience, and general know-how are paramount.
Born in Lemhi Valley and raised in Leodore, Idaho, Fred is the current President and General Superintendent of CCI Trenchless and Coleman Construction. He is someone who isn’t afraid of jumping in and getting his hands dirty or of working alongside his team through thick and thin.
Following the unfortunate passing of his father, Fred took over the family business and began to expand the Coleman name, taking on bigger opportunities and tougher challenges over the years. From running a gravel crushing plant to coordinating the modifications of a Manitowoc 4600 DragLine Crane so CCI could perform dynamic compaction projects in Wyoming, Fred has been willing to take on any challenge in his way.
With over 45 years of experience, Fred’s top talent is his innate ability to see past the “facade” of all processes, boiling them down to only their critical features that provide CCI’s clients with safe, cost-effective, creative solutions to their projects. Wherever you came from, whatever your education, as long as you can do the work then Fred wants you on his team.
Fred contributes a lot of the success of CCI Trenchless to his wonderful wife, Kathy, a true supporter of both the team and family at CCI. Fred enjoys a hard day’s work, people who act and work the same way he does and spending time with friends and family doing various motorsports such as side x siding, snowmobiling, and chatting around a large campfire.

Project Manager & Engineering Support
clay coleman
Innovation is the key to underground engineering, according to Clay Coleman.
Clay was born in Dillon, Montana but primarily grew up in Rock Springs, Wyoming, a town where he had access to miles upon miles of public land with room to hunt, trail ride, and just be free. He was able to see his family work their hardest doing general construction jobs and knew that would be the path he would take as he reached his adult years.
After receiving his degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wyoming, Clay moved on to be a part of and mentored by a talented construction team. There he had the luck to work on tunneling projects in California, Canada, and more. He returned home to help create CCI Trenchless, a division of Coleman Construction, with his valuable knowledge about underground construction. Clay has since been able to apply those invaluable lessons to current projects.
Clay truly enjoys the different types of trenchless work that he is able to perform with CCI. It is his belief that the industry is still evolving and that there is plenty of room to grow for everyone involved, with no two projects ever being the same. He is currently a member of the Underground Construction Association, which promotes the safe and effective development of underground spaces.
Today, Clay enjoys spending time with his lovely wife, Shami, son Ellis and newborn baby girl Lenny Bea whom they welcomed in to the world on March 15th, 2024. In his free time, he loves to cycle, hike, and of course, hang out with his dog Murphy.
